Program Overview
To maximize your home energy performance, consider participating in the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® Audit. A Participating Contractor audits your home and provides a comprehensive, detailed analysis of how improvements throughout your home can work together to improve overall energy efficiency, comfort and safety.
Using advanced modeling software, diagnostic equipment and building science principles, the Participating Contractor will determine which areas of your home would benefit from improvements related to energy efficiency and combustion health and safety. For example, the contractor will:
- Inspect all heating and cooling equipment
- Check for air-leakage using a blower door test
- Conduct a series of combustion-safety tests
- Look for opportunities to improve the home’s insulation, heating and cooling systems, windows, appliances and lighting
- Explain what improvements can be made, what they will cost and which may qualify for federal tax credits and program incentives
How this Program Benefits You
Additional benefits available through the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Audit can include:
- Audits have a promotional cost of $100, they normally average $400
- Cash incentives and rebates for recommended improvements you choose to make, up to $1200 per home
- Potential annual energy savings of 20 percent or more
- Fewer drafts, resulting in rooms that are more comfortable
- Assurance that all work is done properly by specially trained independent contractors
- Reduced greenhouse gas emissions
The Value of Expert Advice
In partnership with the national Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Energy (DOE), Pepco proudly offers this program to our residential customers.
Our Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Audit is implemented exclusively by highly trained, qualified contractors, who must be certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI).

An Energy Advisor will answer your questions with clear, concise detail regarding the significance of the program. You can also request an informational packet, including materials that explain what the audit will cover and the importance of the results as they relate to the overall efficiency of your home.
