Energy Target Tips

Making simple adjustments around your home can make a difference each month.

Here are a few tips that can help you stay comfortable and use less energy.

Manage temperature and comfort

  • Check your thermostat setting and pay attention to how much energy is used in the summer.
  • Set thermostat schedules based on when you are home, away, and sleeping.
  • Increase the temperature on your thermostat while away from your home to conserve energy.
  • Close blinds and curtains during the day to keep out the sun’s heat

Make simple changes to improve equipment performance

  • Replace HVAC air filters every three months or as recommended for your specific HVAC system. You can also schedule a no-cost HVAC Tune-up to ensure your system is working as efficiently as possible.
  • Keep all air vents open to ensure the best performance of your HVAC system.
  • Install heat-blocking solar screens on windows to help the inside of your home stay cool.
  • Ensure dishwasher and laundry loads are full before running.
  • Customers interested in deeper guidance can schedule a Quick Home Energy Check-up, which includes no-cost energy-saving products like LEDs, smart strips, and water-saving devices to combat energy vampires
  • Unplug appliances and electronics when not in use or plug them into a smart power strip.
  • Install outdoor solar lights that can turn on or off using a sensor.
  • Ensure lights are off when not in use and switch to LED bulbs to reduce energy usage
