Opt In

You already know about earning with Energy Wise Rewards. Now you can earn year-round when you enroll in Flex Rewards. Participants will receive up to $72 in bill credits per device per year. You’ll use less energy automatically and help reduce energy demand on the grid —that’s a benefit to your community and the environment.

How it Works

When you participate, minor adjustments of 1- 3 degrees for less than 2 hours will be made to your smart thermostat. This small adjustment can make a big difference to reduce energy use when the demand for electricity is high, such as during a hot afternoon in the summer or a cold morning in the winter.

You are Always in Control

Once an event is over, your smart thermostat will return to your normal setting. You can opt out of an event at any time by simply adjusting your thermostat.

How is it different from traditional Energy Wise Rewards?

Flex Rewards is a year-round program that differs in several key ways from Energy Wise Rewards.

Am I eligible to participate?

You are eligible to participate if you already participate in Energy Wise Rewards with a smart thermostat.

If you participate in Energy Wise Rewards with a utility-provided thermostat or device and are interested in participating with your own smart thermostat instead, contact us so we can collect your device. Then, install your eligible smart thermostat and enroll in Energy Wise Rewards here. Once you are enrolled in Energy Wise Rewards, you can enroll in Flexible Load Management. You are not eligible to participate in Flexible Load Management if you have a utility-installed smart switch on your air conditioner.

The EmPOWER Maryland charge funds programs that can help you reduce your energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions and save you money. Since the inception of the EmPOWER Maryland program in 2008, the programs have saved $14.5 billion on installed measures at a cost of $4.1 billion. In addition to new program costs, this charge includes paying off the uncollected costs that were accrued over time by programs required by the EmPOWER statute and authorized by the Commission. In accordance with House Bill 864 the uncollected amounts will be fully paid by the end of 2032.
