Small Business - Incentives - accordions
Quick Energy Check-ups (QECs) are complimentary to the customer. A Service Provider will visit your business, make recommendations, and install energy-efficient devices.
Complimentary upgrades may include:
- Turning on electronic devices’ energy-saving features
- Installing signs to turn off lights when not in use
- Setting water heater thermostats to an appropriate, energy-saving temperature*
- Installing timers on water coolers
- Insulating exposed water heater and refrigerant pipes
- Replacing worn weather stripping on exterior doors
- Reducing air infiltration using caulk and spray foam
Your Service Provider will install up to $250 worth of these devices at no cost to you. As the customer, you will need to give consent to the Service Provider before installation.

We offer incentives for a wide range of energy-efficient refrigerators, freezers, and other commercial kitchen equipment. For refrigerator units, installing energy-efficient equipment and controls on existing or new equipment can help you reduce energy costs and enhance equipment reliability.
Incentives are available for:
- Anti-sweat heat controls for cooler and freezer doors
- Reach-in door closers for coolers and freezers
- Strip curtains for walk-in coolers and freezers
- ECM evaporative fan motors for walk-in and display coolers and freezers

The EmPOWER Maryland charge funds programs that can help you reduce your energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions and save you money. Since the inception of the EmPOWER Maryland program in 2008, the programs have saved $14.5 billion on installed measures at a cost of $4.1 billion. In addition to new program costs, this charge includes paying off the uncollected costs that were accrued over time by programs required by the EmPOWER statute and authorized by the Commission. In accordance with House Bill 864 the uncollected amounts will be fully paid by the end of 2032.
