Customers can now receive up to $15,000 when they complete new eligible electrification upgrades. Electrification involves replacing or partially replacing a piece of equipment fueled by propane, gas, or oil with equipment fueled by electricity. The Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program can help lower your energy bill by up to 20% year after year by managing your energy usage year-round.* Plus, you can get rebates up to $10,000 for completing eligible home improvements.

Step 1: The Assessment

Start by scheduling a Home Energy Assessment for only $100 (a $400 value). A specially trained Participating Contractor will come to your home and:

  • Perform a comprehensive evaluation of your home systems (air sealing and insulation, HVAC, and more) to identify where energy is being wasted
  • Provide a detailed, customized report with low-cost ways to make your home more energy efficient.

Step 2: Available Rebates

Following your assessment:

  • You’ll learn about the rebates available for improvements to make your home more energy efficient.
  • You can make recommended upgrades to reduce energy costs by up to 20% year after year.

Federal Tax Credits Available

You may be eligible for federal tax credits through the Home Performance program. Air sealing and insulation work are eligible for a tax credit of 30% of the project cost, up to $1,200.

Additionally, if you upgrade to a new heat pump water heater or air source heat pump, you may be eligible for tax credits of 30% of project costs, up to $2,000. Click here to learn more.

A combustion zone is defined as a room and enclosed air volume that contains a combustion appliance, such as a gas range stove or a gas water heater. Assessments of larger homes or homes with multiple combustion appliance zones, such as a home with a furnace or boiler room and a gas range stove, may cost more. Customers should discuss the cost with their selected participating contractor.

The EmPOWER Maryland charge funds programs that can help you reduce your energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions and save you money. Since the inception of the EmPOWER Maryland program in 2008, the programs have saved $14.5 billion on installed measures at a cost of $4.1 billion. In addition to new program costs, this charge includes paying off the uncollected costs that were accrued over time by programs required by the EmPOWER statute and authorized by the Commission. In accordance with House Bill 864 the uncollected amounts will be fully paid by the end of 2032.
