Covenant Life Uses Bright Updates To Meet Larger Goals

Covenant Life Church is a worship community that serves members, families in its affiliated school, and neighbors across a 44-acre campus in Gaithersburg, Md. With a 144,000-square-foot facility that includes a 2,800-seat auditorium, meeting rooms, gymnasiums, classrooms, offices, counseling rooms, and a recording studio, the church saw plenty of opportunities to improve energy efficiency.

The Opportunity

  • Covenant Life’s building still used its original HVAC equipment, which was nearing end-of-life. With an eye on replacing this equipment, the church sought ways to make room in the budget by saving energy and money in other areas, such as lighting.

The Upgrades

  • Covenant Life completed a full LED lighting retrofit and building automation system (BAS) replacement
  • The BAS replacement included upgrades to smaller parts of the mechanical system throughout the building

The Benefits

  • Total energy savings of approximately 1,085,696 kWh per year
  • Estimated cost savings of $173,820 per year
  • Vast reduction in the time spent replacing light bulbs and fixtures
